MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Merry Christmas everybody! I did this as a card for my friend Lyn, and this is a bad scan of a photocopy of it. So enjoy it as much as is possible under the circumstances.

Mail Call on USS Argonaut, Aug. 1942

I decided to look up some old photos and draw whatever suited my fancy. So here's one. I was happy quite with the results, even though I usually suck at machinery stuff.

Starbucks

Because I'm too busy to draw a bunch of new stuff, this here is a fake Starbucks ad I did for my design class waaay back over a year ago when I was still at Emily Carr/BCIT. It was an attempt at 50's style advertising, in the vein of Raymond Savignac in particular.

Fat Wonder Woman

I was inspired some time ago while doodling at work by having seen this a few days before. "This" being the Fat Wonder Woman Blog, featuring tons of people's interpretations of a fat Wonder Woman. I decided to colour it up quick, and tried to give it a potato stamp kinda offset feel. Still looks like shit, which was in part intended, but not quite as shit as it turned out. Regardless, here it is.

Jesus Dyed for Your Sins

Probably not in the best of taste. I apologize in advance. Still... I thought it was kinda funny.

Cowboys & Aliens

Hey all, I just updated Space Jet to the new Beta Blogger. Finally my side links bar is on the ACTUAL SIDE, and not the side at the very bottom of the page. The downside however is that on all of the older posts I was using Photo Bucket since there was no blogger image hosting then. So consequently you can hardly see any of them.
However, if you want to read them, 90% of them are in Space Jet print issues #1 and #2. So you can pick those up if you live in Vancouver at Rx Comics on Main and 8th, I do Vancouver Comic Cons here regularly, and will be at the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle Mar/Apr 2007.

This is an alternate, unused design for my old property Cowboys and Aliens. (Yeah, not the ugly shitty looking graphic novel that apparently Columbia Pictures optioned, I had never heard of it at the time, way back in 2002 when I made a 3-minute animated promo for it at Vancouver Film School.)

Girly Doodle

Here's a girly drawing I doodled at work on a scrap piece of paper. I liked it, so here it is.

Wacom doodling

This is a pretty shit drawing, but I was just playing around with my wacom in photoshop. I hate how jagged it is. How come Flash MX can have pressure sensitive wacom and tapering and I can't figure out how to do that stuff in Photoshop? It would be a lot better than this stupid thing.

old concept.. art a la e.h shephard.

An old concept for bg's for my film. I love E. H. Shephard and he's a big influence on my film style... with animal zombies.
I heart ink on water colour.
Dony Permedi's film- Kiwi

I got the link to this the other day, and I think its amazing.
Enjoy!!!

The Office Series 2

Sorry it's taken so long to put up something. Just about a full month. Been so busy with work. At least work is drawing now, I can't complain. I was watching the Office (UK) the other day and was reminded of these events.

Also, I will be at the Heritage Hall comic con this sunday Nov. 5 and will be selling my previously sold out Space Jet #3 there.

Oh, and check out my good friend Gabriel Frizzera's two comics. He's now selling them in a beautiful large format available from Lulu.com. Go HERE to buy and preview.

The Ghost & Mr. Chicken

This is for the now-defunct 2007 Cinema Sewer calendar. I just found out about a half hour ago that Tower Records has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and the calendar will not happen. But I'm really proud of my contribution so I'll post it here. Let me know what you think of it.
It's an illustration of the 1966 Don Knotts classic (and one of my all-time favorite films) The Ghost and Mr. Chicken.
October seems like a particularly good time to share it with you all.

And yes, I know the piano keys are wrong, my girlfriend already told me, so shut up.

Attack of the Narwhale

I dunno how this will or if it will continue. It was something I was doodling at work today. Anyway, I liked it so I decided to share it.

Also, my good friend Gabriel Frizzera is selling his comics on Lulu, and they are great. I have his self-published copies, but these much larger format boast high quality printing and the stories and art I can vouch for, so head over and order them.

the fluffy zombies

this is a taste of my film. It's gonna have zombie animals in it.

zoo'd

woot aminals. The squirel is from a pic. The rest are from greenview aviaries near where I'm from.

comic, cowboy, and a wee bit of concept

the comic is super rough, and hopefully will be done in good soon. The cowboy is inspired by a movie called

the town that didn't go out after dark. its based on a true story about a murder who never got caught. Considering its from the 7o's, its a freaking scary tale.

and... well concept.

Un Chien Andalou partie cinq

I may be going to the Emerald City Comic Con with Gabriel Frizzera at the end of march/beginning of april of next year, and as such, I hope to finish my adaptation of Luis Bunuel and Salvadore Dali's classic silent film Un Chien Andalou so that I may put it all together in a print edition.

Here now, is part five. I hope that you like it, I'm drawing all the things I'm the worst at drawing in this one; vehicles, architecture, perspective and so on.

You can read parts 1-4 here.

New Issue Sold Out!

Well, it isn't a huge accomplishment, really. I sold 21. But I also sold a thwack of my older stuff, and really, that much at a Vancouver con is ... pretty remarkable. So I'm happy. I'll be printing more soon to sell at Rx Comics and perhaps also for Sophia's Books. This is the finished cover to the left. Click to enlarge.

Reading Suggestions
And NOW it's time for me to recommend some of the great comics I've been reading lately. Thanks to Sophia's Books on Hastings downtown, I've been able to get my hands on some great french language imports.
I'm currently very much enjoying Le Petit Monde du Golem, a collection of short stories that take place in the same world as Vampire Loves, by Joann Sfar. I love Sfar's stuff... even though he put down one of my favorite artists, Craig Thompson, in the French press.

The other french comic I've just read last week was Fraise et Chocolat by Aurélia Aurita, a Japanese/French girl. (who's also my age, which makes me wish I was as successful as her by now) It's essentially a diary comic of the first few months with her older boyfriend Frederic, and it is surprisingly open about their sex life together. Although the point of view of a woman, the simple cartoony style and the fact that nary a nipple is drawn on the breasts throughout the length of the book helps you get past the sexual matters you usually might feel uncomfortable (or perhaps excited) to read about.

There's a lot more, but I'll mention just one more book I'm loving. It's called Cartoon Modern. The blog is located in my links section, but this book I have to mention again, because it is just so jaw-droppingly beautiful. It's the art and design of 50's animation. (my favorite period in animation history) You must check it out.

Bat Betrayal!

ON SUNDAY AUGUST 27th GO TO THE VANCOUVER COMIX & STORIES COMIC CON AT HERITAGE HALL ON MAIN & 15th!!
This is the Indie one with almost all creators and not that superhero-only, eight shitty back issues for $1 type of con. JAMES JEAN is gonna be there! HOLY SHIT!! GO TO IT! 11am-5pm.
I'll be debuting Space Jet Comics #3! 32 pages!! Featuring 23 pages of comic that have never been seen on this site or anywhere else!
I also have a new one pager in Cinema Sewer #19. Pick it up. Support Robin Bougie!
I will be sharing a half table with Gabriel Frizzera, creator of Isthmus, who will be debuting his incredible new stand-alone comic Heavy Metal Heart at the con as well.

K, now for today's comic. This is an OLD one. Like, 2002 old. However I still find it funny, and I figured I'd share it.

This is a jam comic by myself, Gabriel Frizzera and Karinga Wells.
I may post a few more jams with these guys later, I dunno. Either way, it's worth noting that they're two of my favorite artists.

Batman, Robin, & Ace the Bat Hound all TM and Copyright DC Comics, yadda yadda yadda.

(same as all the other cons but more independent, less superhero shit.) This is pretty low-rez, sorry bout that. Hope you enjoy the purdy girl. (as always, click to enlarge)

home

I'm back home in St. Thomas, so now I have no excuse not to post more. So I'm gonan try to post a steady stream of crap for the visual savy.
PEI was definitly an awesome experience, and I got the chance to meet several awesome artists like Kyle Marshall, Christine Cunninham, Cindy B, Nathan Little, Jason, and Troy Little. I have most of them linked to the right so do check them out. They were awesome to work with!

well... here's a little taste of the film. I found an old fashion book, and I love the designs, so I'm gonna try to incorporate that more in to my film.
<---- this is done with water colour.
There was going to be more to this post, but.. scanner crapped out.

Also, a big thanks out to John Nevarez for posting me. I feel pretty flattered. Didn't really expect it. Again.. thanks!

Pinky Blues: Early Years part 6

As promised here is today's update. I'm trying desperately to finish a new issue of Space Jet before I start my full-time job at Studio B in a week, but I don't know how likely that is.
